How do the relationships between the characters revel the impact of prejudice in of mice and men? par1:paragraph one will be the introduction where I state what my essay is going to be about and name a few of the topics I am going to cover
Par2:In this section I will make one point and discuss it, I will write some quotes down that I have extracted from the book.
Par3:I will do the same as I did in paragraph 2 but make a different point, in these paragraph I will talk about the way that kooks is treated and how they don’t really dislike him but they don’t see him as a friend because he is black. I will also talk about the way that Carly’s wife is referred to as just Carly’s wife and hasn’t been given a name. Also about the way they see women as just for sex.
For my conclusion I am going to give an overall round up of my essay and make my point clearly.
“There’s small choice in rotten apples.”
- Hortensio, Act I scene I
“My tongue will tell the anger of my heart, or else my heart concealing it will break.”
- Katharina, Act IV scene 3
“Petruchio: Come, come, you wasp; i’ faith, you are too angry. Katherine: If I be waspish, best beware my sting. Petruchio: My remedy is then, to pluck it out. Katherine: Ay, if the fool could find where it lies. Petruchio: Who knows not where a wasp does wear his sting? In his tail. Katherine: In his tongue. Petruchio: Whose tongue? Katherine: Yours, if you talk of tails: and so farewell. Petruchio: What, with my tongue in your tail? Nay, come again, Good Kate; I am a gentleman.”
“Come, come, you froward and unable worms! My mind hath been as big as one of you My heart as great, my reason haply more, To bandy word for word and frown for frown;”
- Katharina, Act V scene 1
“I see a woman may be made a fool, If she had not a spirit to resist.” “Old fashions please me best; I am not so nice To change true rules for odd inventions.”
- Bianca, scene I
“Sorrow on thee and all the pack of you, That triumph thus upon my misery! Go, get thee gone, I say.”
- Katharina, Act 4, Scene 3
But now I see our lances are but straws, Our strength as weak, our weakness past compare, That seeming to be most which we indeed least are. Then vail your stomachs, for it is no boot, And place your hands below your husband’s foot: In token of which duty, if he please, My hand is ready; may it do him ease.
- Katharina, Act V, Scene 2
This essay demonstrates real progress in your writing. Its strengths are that it is very well constructed – you organise your ideas very well, and provide clear markers to your reader to explain your ideas and the relationship between them. You dealt evenly with both texts, you made insightful points and you supported many of your ideas with specific quotations from the texts
To develop your work further, you will want to:
- Explore the language of the texts you’re examining
- Make a wider range of links between the two texts – what are the women expressing? Why do they express themselves the way they do?
- Expand your analysis to include a wider range of points and ensure that you support EVERY point with a quotation.
The quote “the silence said so” which is on page 117 relates to the bigger picture in the sense that the whole scene is about the fact that he has lost all hope and has accepted he is going to die. I believe that “the silence said so” is contradicting itself as if something is silent then it cannot say something. Even though this quote may not seem a big deal when you first see it, if you look deeper into the quote you will see that by using personification the author has made many things in the book sound lifelike. He has done this because we can relate more to something that is living rather than something that isn’t. The constant personification metaphors are all building towards something. It gives us the impression that he is so alone that the silence is his only company.
Claire experiences a lot of distress during the gale force winds she went through whilst sailing across the Atlantic such as the fact that she got absolutely soaked. She explained to us that everything she was wearing was soaked, her jumper her jeans, everything. But although she went through this she felt a huge sense of pride that she had done this. She is also tired as she had been up all night changing the sales.
I have chosen to do my theme study on youth culture. I have chosen this because i think it is very relevant to me at the moment and also because i believe it is an interesting subject to learn about. Thanks to the media there are many different views on youth culture, some positive and some negative. The pieces i have chosen to read and watch all express different opinions on the subject but all relate back to youth culture.
the first thing i am studying is the film kidulthood. kidulthood is a film about a day in the lives of 3 london teens who have to deal with the consiquences of there actions. The film starts off with a young girl killing herself due to being constantly bullied in school by people in her own year and also in older years. One of the bullies is Sam. He is a sixth former who is involved in gang activity and is generally feared and respected in his school. Sam also bullies 3 boys who are in year 10, jay, mooney and trevor. These three are close friends who later on in the film fall out. Whilst they are at school sam stole jays phone and jay wants revenge. Later in the film the three boys see sam and follow him back to his house where they beat him up and take the phone back. Sam is now angry as he is in pain and also his pride has been hurt. That night sam follows the three boys to a party and beats up trevor, despite the efforts of his two friends they cant get the better of sam who has a baseball bat. When trevor finally gets the better of sam, he uses the baseball bat to hit trever in the stomach, Sam then flees the party and trevor is left to die in his friends arms whilst the ambulance comes.
I think this film represents the way alot of youths in todays society carry themselves which is that they are some sort of gangster. It shows how some people act when there pride is hurt and gives a very good insite on how some young people live there life.

Revenge is sweet
I know your probably wondering what this means. This was the date that Alan Davies , a caring family man from south London, went missing. it was just a normal day for Alan and his wife , they got up , 7:00 , had breakfast together , then Alan left for work. He was a P.E. teacher at a secondary school and loved his job passionately so it was very rare that he missed work. But that day, Alan never turned up. His colleagues thought that he was probably ill because that would be the only reason he would miss work. It got to around 7:00pm and he still wasn’t home, this was unusual because the secondary school he worked at was only about a 25 minute drive from where he lived. His wife was very worried as she had rang his phone several times, she decided to go to bed and just thought that he had gone for a drink after work with his colleagues. When she woke up he still wasn’t back, she was very worried by this point and decided to call the police. A search party was issued as he still didn’t turn up several hours later. The search went on for days, but still there was no sign of him. Months went by, still they searched, and still they found no sign. Once a year had past the police called off the search, Alan was announced dead on the 27.10.97. This broke his family’s hearts, especially his wife, Michelle, who loved him dearly. They had no kids together so she began to feel lonely. She became very close with Alan’s best friend Jim and they began to develop feelings for each other. Michelle felt very guilty about this for a very long while. She eventually married Jim In 1999, but Michelle never gave up hope that Alan was still out there somewhere. They had there 1st child in the same year. Things where going well until , one night when Jim was out at the pub Michelle decided to look through some of Alan’s old things, she was surprised to find some old papers she never noticed before , they where debts , some of them where up to £10,000,000. Michelle then began to wonder, “Was this the reason for Alan’s disappearance?” she asked herself. She decided it was best to ask Jim when he got home as he was very close to Alan when he was around. Jim told her not to think into things too much and quickly disposed of the papers. Jim requested that they should go on a holiday together, just the two of them, with no children, no phone just each other so they can get away from things for a long weekend. Michelle agreed that this would probably help there marriage as they where arguing a lot recently. So the next month they set off toBarcelona. They arrived inBarcelona at around 6:00 in the evening, they headed back to there hotel and after they had unpacked and freshened up they decided to go out for a romantic meal, this is where the story begins.
It was around 8:00pm and Jim and Michelle where sitting in a restaurant enjoying there meal when Michelles face completely changed, it was like she had just seen a ghost , her jaw nearly hit the floor and her eyes just glared in amazement towards the door. “H-h-h-he’s h-h-here” she stuttered. With that Jim turned round to see what she was talking about, jims looked puzzled towards the door “what are you on about love” he said to Michelle , before he had even finished the sentence his tone lowered dramatically. Michelle screamed with a mixture of fear and excitement, she didn’t know what to say. There, in the doorway of a small tapas bar inSpainstood Alan davies , his face, a cross between anger and disappointment at what he is seeing, his eyes looked on glaring at jim. “whats going on, you told me to go away for a ehile , you said that” he shouted at jim, he was like a lion roaring. “I told you to stay innew york” jim screamed back at alan,. Michelle looked confused , she didn’t know what to think of the situation. “whats going” on she asked. “michelle its not what it looks like” said jim guiltily , then Alans face changed , his eyes began to squint , his fists began to clench , he started breathing heavily and asked very quietly and calmly “whats that on your finger” to Michelle. “are you two married”. Michelle burst into tears. Alan then turned to jim “I trusted you. I trusted you to look after my wife, I trusted you when you when you said it would be best to get away, but all you cared about was yourself”. “no. mate I can explain” said jim as he was backing away. “you were supposed to me my friend, but it just turns out you where just waiting for my back to turn so you could get nice and cosy with my wife”. The whole restaurant sat and watched as alan sprinted towards jim , jim ran away through the back door of the restaurant. Michelle ran out screaming after them. But she couldn’t of began to comprehend what she saw. She went silent for a couple of seconds before letting out a scream that can only be described as like a banshee. With that a couple of the men from the restaurant ran out to see what was wrong. “hes dead” michelle screamed. Jim was laying on the floor in the middle of the road with a single knife wound in the middle of his chest. On the other side of the road Alan was standing there , his eyes where looking sternly at Michelle who was crying, “im sorry” he said, alan the fled into the distance leaving michelle standing over her dead husbands body, with tears streaming down her face . This was the last time anyone ever saw alan again. Some people he fled to a small village in the south ofspain, but no one can be sure. Michelle lived the rest of her life scared to love anyone again.
