I have chosen to do my theme study on youth culture. I have chosen this because i think it is very relevant to me at the moment and also because i believe it is an interesting subject to learn about. Thanks to the media there are many different views on youth culture, some positive and some negative. The pieces i have chosen to read and watch all express different opinions on the subject but all relate back to youth culture.

the first thing i am studying is the film kidulthood. kidulthood is a film about a day in the lives of 3 london teens who have to deal with the consiquences of there actions. The film starts off with a young girl killing herself due to being constantly bullied in school by people in her own year and also in older years. One of the bullies is Sam. He is a sixth former who is involved in gang activity and is generally feared and respected in his school. Sam also bullies 3 boys who are in year 10, jay, mooney and trevor. These three are close friends who later on in the film fall out. Whilst they are at school sam stole jays phone and jay wants revenge. Later in the film the three boys see sam and follow him back to his house where they beat him up and take the phone back. Sam is now angry as he is in pain and also his pride has been hurt. That night sam follows the three boys to a party and beats up trevor, despite the efforts of his two friends they cant get the better of sam who has a baseball bat. When trevor finally gets the better of sam, he uses the baseball bat to hit trever in the stomach, Sam then flees the party and trevor is left to die in his friends arms whilst the ambulance comes.

I think this film represents the way alot of youths in todays society carry themselves which is that they are some sort of gangster. It shows how some people act when there pride is hurt and gives a very good insite on how some young people live there life.

Hello and welcome to your personal online journal.

This platform has been created to enhance and enrich your learning at the London Nautical School. Its purpose is to provide you with an audience for your work (or work-in-progress) and you have the choice (by altering the ‘visibility’ of your posts) of whether your work on here is visible to the world, or only to your teacher.

Anything you post here in the public domain represents you and thus it’s important that you take care with that decision, but don’t be afraid to publish your work – as the feedback you may get from people at home, your peers and people from around the internet is only likely to enhance it.

Remember you can always access your class blog and all manner of resources through the Edutronic.net main website – and by all means check out the sites of your peers to see what they’re getting up to as well.

If you have any questions for me, an excellent way to get an answer is to create a new private post on this journal. I am notified of any new posts and will reply swiftly to any queries.

Make the most of, and enjoy this new freedom in your English learning.

Righto!
